At the 2001 UK census, the Bockhanger electoral ward had a population of 2,468. The ethnicity was 97.7% white, 1% mixed race, 0.8% Asian, 0.5% black and 0% other. The place of birth of residents was 95.6% United Kingdom, 0.5% Republic of Ireland, 1.2% other Western European countries, and 2.7% elsewhere. Religion was recorded as 78.1% Christian, 0% Buddhist, 0.3% Hindu, 0% Sikh, 0% Jewish, and 0.8% Muslim. 13.2% were recorded as having no religion, 0.4% had an alternative religion and 7.3% did not state their religion.

The economic activity of residents aged 16–74 was 42.4% in full-time employment, 12.6% in part-time employment, 8.1% self-employed, 3.1% unemployed, 2.4% students with jobs, 3.1% students without jobs, 14.4% retired, 7.2% looking after home or family, 4.8% permanently sick or disabled and 2% economically inactive for other reasons.
