Blount Generating Station, also known as Blount Street Generating Station is a natural gas-fired, electrical power station located in the city of Madison, Wisconsin, in Dane County.

Fuel

Originally constructed as a coal-burning power plant, this 100-megawatt power plant now operates exclusively on cleaner-burning natural gas. It is owned and operated by Madison Gas and Electric (MGE). Under MGE's Energy 2015 plan, Blount Station's use of coal was phased out and then fully discontinued on Dec. 31, 2011. From 1979 to 1993 the facility burned refuse derived fuel, diverting waste from the local landfill and generating electricity with it. MGE also test burned switchgrass in 1995 and 1996.
