History
The idea for selling dashcams originated from a personal need after founder Alex Jang experienced his family members involved in a terrible car accident. The case was delayed because no parties accepted fault and no witnesses came forward. From this, Alex Jang, while still a sophomore at the University of British Columbia, began researching on dashcams and quickly found their prevalence in the Asian market. In March 2012, BlackboxMyCar officially launched and began selling to the Canadian market, quickly expanding to the rest of North America and the world.
Services
As of 2016, BlackboxMyCar retails a large variety of dashcams and related accessories. The company sells units ranging from the most basic dashcams with recording-only capabilities to advanced dashcams that include parking-mode recording, GPS tracking and the integration of battery hard-wiring.
Their website also offers in-depth reviews on dashcams as well as YouTube tutorials.
BlackboxMyCar has been officially invited as the sole Canadian dashcam representative to the South Korean government in both 2014 and 2015.
Furthermore, the company has been recognized by a variety of news stations including the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, The Province, CTV Television Network, Global BC and Maclean's for its contributions to the consumer electronics market.
