Bishnupur (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (Bengali: বিশ্নুপুর বিধানসভা কেন্দ্র) is an assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is reserved for scheduled castes.

Overview

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 146 Bishnupur (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (SC) is composed of the following: Bishnupur I community development block, and Asuti I, Asuti II, Chatta and Raspunja gram panchayats of Thakurpukur Mahestala community development block.

Bishnupur (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 21 Diamond Harbour (Lok Sabha constituency).While Bishnupur West was part of Diamond Harbour (Lok Sabha constituency), Bishnupur East was part of Jadavpur (Lok Sabha constituency).

2016

In 20161 Dilip Mondal of Trinamool Congress defeated his nearest rival Sudhin Sinha of CPI(M).

The bypoll to the Bhowanipore seat was necessitated by the death of sitting MLA of CPIM Rathin Sarkar.Madan Mitra of Trinamool Congress defeated Iskandar Hossain of CPIM

In the 2006 state assembly elections, Ananda Kumar Biswas of CPI(M) won the Bishnupur East (SC) assembly seat defeating his nearest rival Dilip Mondal of Trinamool Congress. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Dilip Mondal of Trinamool Congress defeated Ananda Kumar Biswas of CPI(M) in 2001.Ananda Kumar Biswas of CPI(M) defeated Mahadeb Naskar of Congress in 1996. Sundar Naskar of CPI(M) defeated Ram Krishna Bar of Congress in 1991,Ardhendu Sekhar Naskar of Congress in 1987,Mahadeb Naskar of Congress in 1982and Ram Krishna Bar of Congress in 1977.

1977-2009 Bishnupur West

In the 2009 by-elections, caused by the death of the sitting MLA, Madan Mitra of Trinamool Congress won the Bishunpur West assembly seat defeating Iskander Hossain of CPI(M).In the 2006state assembly elections, Rathin Sarkar of CPI(M) defeated Madan Mitra of Trinamool Congress. Subrata Bakshi of Trinamool Congress defeated Rathin Sarkar of CPI(M) in 2001. Sankar Saran Naskar of CPI(M) defeated Aruna Ghosh Dastidar of Congress in 1996.Kashi Nath Adak of CPI(M) defeated Aruna Ghosh Dastidat of Congress in 1991, and Shaik Moquebul Haque in 1987.Provash Chandra Roy of CPI(M) defeated Niranjan Ghosh of Congress in 1982and Moaue Haque Shaik of Congress in 1977.

1962-1972 Bishnupur East

Ram Krishna Bar of Congress won in 1972and 1971. Sundar Kumar Naskar of CPI(M) won in 1969and 1967.Santilata Mondal of Congress won in 1962.

1962-1972 Bishnupur West

Provash Chandra Roy of CPI(M) won 1972,1971,1969and 1967.Jugal Charan Santra of Congress won in 1962.

1951-1957 Bishnupur

In 1957the Bishnupur seat was won jointly by Provash Chandra Roy of CPI and Rabindranath Roy of CPI. In independent India’s first election in 1951,the Bishnupur was won jointly by Basanta Kumar Mal of Congress and Provash Chandra Roy of CPI.
