Bill Byrd


William Byrd (July 15, 1907 – January 4, 1991) was an American professional baseball player in the Negro leagues. Born in Canton, Georgia, he was a right-handed pitcher. He participated in six All-Star games. Byrd also saw action with the Criollos de Caguas and Cangrejeros de Santurce clubs of the Puerto Rico Winter League, where he was considered one of the best hurlers. He died at age 83 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

At age 45, Byrd received votes listing him on the 1952 Pittsburgh Courier player-voted poll of the Negro Leagues' best players ever.
