William Joseph Butters (born January 10, 1951 in Saint Paul, Minnesota) Played high school hockey at White bear Lake, MN. Played for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers from 1971-1973. Was Captain of the Gophers in 72-73. Former coaches were Glen Sonmor and Herb Brooks in college. is a retired professional ice hockey player who played 217 games in the World Hockey Association and 72 games in the National Hockey League. He played for the Minnesota Fighting Saints, Houston Aeros, Edmonton Oilers, New England Whalers, and Minnesota North Stars.

After retiring from hockey, Butters helped with a hockey camp known as Christian Hockey Camps International put on by Hockey Ministries International.

From 2010 to 2013, Butters was an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey team.
