Etymology
Bhood is well known for its Lord Bhoodsidhhnatha Temple. The village's name is taken from the Lord's name.
History
Bhood was under the administration of Aundh State during the British Raj, Aundh was a princely state in British India. It was a part of the Deccan States Agency division of the Bombay Presidency. After Indian independence, Bhood came under the administration of South Satara district. But, with the creation of Sangli district on 1 May 1960, Bhood is now within its jurisdiction.
Climate
The village has a semi arid, hot and dry climate consisting of mainly three seasons. Summers are long, ranging almost five months from mid February to June. Temperatures in summer fall between 35 °C (95 °F) - 40 °C (104 °F). However, it may reach higher than 40 °C in searching summer. May is the hottest month of a year with an average day temperature of 37 °C (98.6 °F) in the village. Winters are short with temperatures ranging within 15 °C (59 °F) - 21 °C (69.8 °F). December is the coldest month in a year. Relative humidity in winter is the lowest and December is the driest month in a year with the relative humidity as low as 30%. Rains are scarce and occur only during the Monsoon from mid June to September. Annual average rainfall is about 25.5 inches (647.7 mm). September gets the maximum rainfall in a year while July has the maximum rainy days.
Location of Bhood
Bhood is located in south-western Maharashtra at 17°20′11″N 74°41′3″E in Khanapur (Vita) tehsil of the Sangli district.
Agriculture
Most of Bhood's population are farmers, with their main crops being: wheat, jowar, bajra, groundnut, etc. Some also cultivate grapes of export quality. Their main sources of water for farming is rainwater and groundwater, yet some also use the drip irrigation method on their farms. Currently 878 Hectares of land are under cultivation in the village, of which only 51 Hectares are irrigated. Forest land constitutes about 297 Hectares of the total.
Gold Refinery and Jewelers
Although the main profession is farming, much of the population are involved in gold refining and jewellery. Many people have businesses making bullions of precious metals such as gold and silver, while many have jewellery marketing business.

Marathi language newspapers such as Pudhari, Sakaal, Lokmat are available in the village. Bhood receives broadcasts from FM Radio services such as Radio Tomato, Radio Mirchi and All India Radio. Cable service for television is available but the popularity of DTH is increasing. Regional Marathi television channels are more popular.

The Grampanchayat Bhood is the administrative body for the village which is directly responsible for the affairs within the village. The village has been divided into 3 Wards, each ward has its 3 elected representatives called 'Gramsadasy' or 'punch'. The gramsadasy elect the 'Sirpunch' of the Grampanchayat which is head of the Grampanchayat. The Grampanchayat elections are held after every five years. Bhood is at a distance of 275 km south-west of Mumbai, 73 km north of Sangli and 18 km from Vita. The nearest villages and towns are Khanapur (10 km), Lengare, and Kharsundi (13 km). Bhood has bus stand served by the buses of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation.

Chaitra Ashtami
Lord Bhoodsiddhnath is the Gramadevata of Bhood and his annual festival is held during and coinciding with Chaitra Krishna Ashtami known as Chaitra Ashtami, which is a three-day celebration of the Lord's wedding ceremony. On the first day bullock cart races are organized near the temple. The second day is the most important day, with the Sasankathi (Holy long wooden pole or metallic bar) and the Diva (Holy lamp) are the main attractions. On the third day Kusumba (a type of Bhang) is served as the Prasadam to the Lord.
