Early career

Goldstein grew up in Detroit. After finishing degrees in speech and hearing, audiology, and a Ph.D. in Audiology and Rehabilitation, Goldstein worked in healthcare for several years, settling in the Cleveland, OH region in 1971. She has taught at Case Western Reserve University as well as Cleveland State University and chaired the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) Commission. She has also worked with the Ohio Department of Health and Ohio Senator Grace Drake to pass legislation requiring mandatory hearing screening for newborns.

Political career

Goldstein has lobbied against the Iran nuclear deal framework. She declared her candidacy for the US representative for Ohio's 11th district in 2016. Her main platform focuses on inner city poverty, especially in the Cleveland, Ohio region, which ranks as some of the worst in the nation.
