Beverly Derewianka (born 1946) is a professor at the University of Wollongong, Australia who has studied how to teach reading to students. In 1990 she authored "Rocks in the Head, Children and the Language of Geology" using a conceptual snail to describe a process of studying a topic, then reading and finally writing about it.
