Education

She was a graduate of Ohio University in Athens where she obtained an Associate Degree in Math and Science, a Bachelor of Business Administration, a Master of Education Degree, and a Ph.D in Higher Education. In addition, Dr. Young was a graduate of Capital University Law School. She was licensed to practice law in Ohio and West Virginia.

Career

In February 2016, Dr. Young received a vote of no confidence from 92.93% of the faculty and professional staff of Hocking College, with 92 members of the staff and faculty responding with "I have no confidence in Dr. Young's leadership". The criticisms laid out in a letter to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the school included, but was not limited to overcrowded classes, an overuse of adjunct professors, inexperienced instructors, a lack of transparency in her leadership, and a disregard for staff and faculty input leading to a "continuous decline in morale among staff, faculty, students, alumni and the community."

Dr. Young came to Northwest State from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio. There she served as the Associate Vice President for Academic Services. During her four years at Franklin she served as the Assistant Vice President for Academic Services, Dean of the Ross School of Management and Leadership, Interim Dean of the Graduate School of Business, and Assistant Dean of Curriculum Development. She was the founding Dean of the Ross School of Management and Leadership at Franklin, the largest academic unit of the University. Before her job at Franklin University, Dr. Young was the Department Chair for the Business Division at Washington State Community College in Marietta, Ohio.

She was the president of Northwest State Community College in Archbold, OH. She held that office from September 1, 2003, when she became the fifth president, until she stepped down in 2007.

In September 2005, she led the Lessons for Leno National Tour, which culminated in a meeting with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. The purpose of the tour was to promote interest and acceptance for community colleges across the country.

She had been named the president of Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in Asheville, NC, beginning Sept. 1, 2007. She resigned from this position in Spring 2009.

Houston Community College

She was named President of Houston Community College Coleman College for Health Sciences effective April 1, 2009. Chancellor Cesar Maldonado fired Young in 2014.

"Maldonado's swift action at Coleman has faculty more optimistic about the future of HCC than they have been in years," said Susan Goll, the newly elected president of the faculty senate.
