Bergville

Bergville is a small town situated in the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It was established as Bergville Mountain Village in 1897 and is now the commercial centre for a 2,500 km² dairy and cattle ranching area. A blockhouse was built by the British soldiers in the town during the Second Boer War.

Bergville is equidistant from Johannesburg and Durban and is also known as the gateway to the Northern Drakensberg holiday resorts. It lies on Route R74 which is a more scenic alternative to the N3 Toll Road. This route takes one via the Oliviershoek Pass, traditionally used to access the Drakensberg, from Johannesburg. Bergville is easiest reached from Durban by turning off the N3 after Estcourt, joining the R74 through Winterton towards the mountain.

It is a place which is disrespected by people,although it contains the most stunning things that no other places have.It contain one large ZULU nation.Its people depend and practising only one function of farming as it has fertile soil.Bergville is lying under DRAKENSBURG MOUNTAINS,these mountains have a highest record to be the third highest mountains in the world and first in the country.This great escarpment make this place unique as has Tugela fall.On its own, it has a highest record to be the second highest waterfall in the world.Water on the Tugela fall as they hit the talus of the escarpment create a permanent river called Tugela river.The Tugela river provide the city of JOHANNESBURG with sufficient fresh water.

Bergville contains Drakensburg hydroelectric power station which ensures that South Africa have enough power.

Bergville is well known for the old farming families. Gace,Scandlers,Zunkel,Scott and many more have been farming the land for over one hundred years. Bergville is known for there close farming community. Once a year Bergville Polo Club hosts the Berg Show annually around September.
