Belgium entered the Eurovision Song Contest 1999 with Vanessa Chinitor and "Like The Wind". The song was selected to represent Belgium at the contest by winning the Belgium national final Eurosong '99

Eurosong '99

Eurosong '99 was held between 7 February and 28 February 1999. Three semi-finals were held for the contest, where the winner of each semi-final, as well as the highest scoring runner-up over all three semi-finals, qualified to the final, where they were joined by four more songs, internally selected by the Belgian broadcaster, Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep (VRT). The winner of the final was selected through the votes of four juries: an expert jury appointed by VRT; juries from two Belgian radio station, Radio 2 and Radio Donna; a European jury, along with the votes of televoting.

Each of the three semi-finals and the final were held at the VRT TV Studios in Schelle, with all four shows hosted by Bart Peeters.

Semi-final 1

The first semi-final was held on 7 February. Vanessa Chinitor won the semi-final, receiving 36 points for her song "Like The Wind"

Semi-final 2

the second semi-final was held on 14 February. Wendy Fierce won this semi-final with "Never Give Up", receiving 45 points. Runners-up Voice Male also qualified as the highest scoring runner-up, having received 32 points for their song "This Is My Life".

Semi-final 3

The final semi-final was held on 21 February. Alana Dante was the final winner, receiving 32 points for her performance of "Get Ready For The Sunsand".

Final

The final of Eurosong '99 was held on 28 February. Eight songs competed, including the four qualfiiers from the semi-finals: Vanessa Chinitor; Wendy Fierce; Alana Dante and Voice Male, as well as the four internally selected songs: Natural High; Medusa; Petra and Sarah. the winner of the contest was Vanessa Chinitor with "Like The Wind", which would go on to represent Belgium at the 1999 Eurovision Song Contest in Jerusalem, Israel.

At Eurovision

Chinitor performed second on the night of the contest, following Lithuania and preceding Spain. "Like The Wind" received 38 points, placing 12th in a field on 23.
