Beijing-Zhangjiakou Intercity Railway is Chinese high-speed railway currently under construction between the Chinese national capital, Beijing and Zhangjiakou in Hebei province. This route will have a length of approximately 173.947 kilometers of double tracked high speed rail, with a designed speed of 250 km/h but operating at 200 km/h. Initially planning was for 9 stations, with a 10th station added with the branch to Yanqing. The railway was originally scheduled to start construction in 2009, however due to the Ministry of Railways adjusting the high-speed rail construction program this was postponed until 2014. This railway is expected to connect with the future Zhangjiakou–Hohhot High-Speed Railway and Datong-Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway, both currently under construction too.

Route description
Leading north from Beijing North Railway Station the line will pass the existing Tsinghua, Qinghe & Shahe stations. A new Changping West Station will be built before entering a tunnel under the Great Wall and with a new station facility at Badaling, this will avoid the famous switchback, zigzag conventional railway line. North of this tunnel will connect the Hong Yan branch to Yanqing in preparation for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games venues there.After entering Hebei provincial territory, there will be a new station at Donghuayuan South, travelling along the Beijing-Zhangjiakou highway across the Guanting Reservoir, before arriving at the existing Shacheng station, the new stations at Xiahuayuan North, Xuanhua North before terminating at the existing Zhangjiakou South station.
Total length of this project 173.947 kilometres, of which 70.42 kilometres will be with in Beijing Shi and 103.527 kilometres with in Zhangjiakou territory. The project has an estimated investment cost of 23.62 billion Yuan. Construction of the unit is carried out by the "Beijing-Zhangjiakou Inter-city Railway Limited ", a company incorporated in November 7, 2013. Registered capital of 100 million yuan. Shareholders are in this company are the Beijing Railway Bureau (60.02%), Beijing Infrastructure Investment Co. Ltd. (formerly the Beijing Subway Group Co., Ltd.) (32.42%) and Zhangjiakou Winton Holdings Limited with 7.56% of total shares.
2022 Winter Olympic Games
This high-speed railway is considered a crucial and vital link between all three venue clusters for the 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing. Beijing will host most of the indoor skating, ice hockey and curling events plus the opening and closing ceremonies. Yanqing will host Alpine skiing plus the luge and bobsleigh. Zhangjiakou will host Nordic skiing, snowboarding and freestyle skiing. This railway places all venues within one hour of each other.
