History

Founder Eugene Alletto started his first furniture organization in 1995, a manufacturer’s association called Furniture Marketing Associates. Then in 1999, he founded Guard Master, which produced furniture care and mattress protectors. It is from this venture that Alletto funded the launch of Bedgear, which he founded in 2008 as a spin-off. Alletto remains the CEO of the company. The company is headquartered in Farmingdale, New York.

Bedding

Bedgear produces pillows that are personalized for the different positions in which their users sleep during the night. Additional performance products include sheets, and mattress protectors. The company refers to its products as “performance bedding essentials”. Bedgear also produces a youth line of pillows, and a baby line. Each uses proprietary fabrics that utilize heat & moisture wicking properties that provide higher airflow and can help to regulate body temperature. Bedgear sleeping products have been designed for use by athletes and professional sports players, in addition to individuals who have trouble sleeping. Bedgear is sold through about four thousand retail locations in the US and Canada. In 2015, the company began selling its products in South America. That year the company also released Pillow ID, an online application that matches people to bed pillow types depending on body type, mattress, and sleep position.

Partnerships

The company has partnered with sports stadiums like Citi Field to sponsor fan sleepovers on the stadium grounds, and has partnered with professional sports teams to provide bedding to professional athletes and staff. Partner teams include the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Detroit Tigers, New York Islanders, St. Louis Blues, and Denver Broncos, in addition to Olympic athletes. It also sponsors non-profit educational efforts to educate youth about sleep, through its bedgear Sleep Fuel Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 as well as the Canadian non-profit Breakfast for Learning.

Recognition

Bedgear was listed as #339 on the 2013 Inc. 500. In 2015 Alletto received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the New York region for founding the company.
