Barry Libert (born in 1954) is a digital board member, technology (angel) investor, and strategic advisor to boards and their leaders seeking to benefit from the digital revolution. He is based in Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Libert specializes in social, mobile and big data company investing and advising larger organizations on the impact of these technologies on their business.

Career
Libert is the chairman and founder of OpenMatters, a technology (angel) investor, digital board member and strategic advisory firm. He has spent the last ten years investing in and founding social, mobile, and big data technology companies. In 2001, he founded Mzinga, a social software and e-learning company. His board assignments include (present and past):
in addition, Libert is a strategic (ditigal) advisor to a number of larger enterprises seeking to leverage social, mobile and cloud technologies to drive revenues and reduce costs. As Digital Advisor, his past and present clients include Deloitte, GE Healthcare, ESPN and Goldman Sachs.
Barry is also a Senior Fellow at the SEI Center at Wharton where he reesarches business models and Leadsership styles. A number of articles have been written and published by him on the resukts of his research in HBR, WSJ and NACD.
Publications
Libert has co-authored five books on the value of social networks, crowdsourcing and big data in business, healthcare and government. His fifth book, Social Nation, was published in the fall of 2010 by John Wiley & Sons.
In 2007, Libert co-authored We Are Smarter Than Me with Jon Spector (CEO of the Conference Board), which focused on the power of crowdsourcing. Using a wiki and the contributions of more than 4,500 people, We are Smarter than Me illustrated through practical applications (e.g. the first business book to be written by a crowd using a wiki) how businesses can profit from the wisdom of crowds using today's technologies.
Prior to publishing We Are Smarter Than Me, Libert also published Value Rx: How to Make the Most of Your Organization's Assets and Relationships in 2001 and Cracking the Value Code: How Successful Businesses Are Creating Wealth in the New Economy in 2000. Both of these books focused on his research into the value of social interactions between constituents of an organization. He also published the book Barack, Inc, which showed how Barack Obama used social media to win his presidential campaign and the lessons that could be used by business leaders seeking to win the loyalty and support of their customers and employees.
Libert also authored twenty e-books on the value of social media, mobile devices and big data. His three newest e-books, The Social Revolution, The Big Data Revolution, and The Mobile Revolution, focus on what leaders need to know and do in today's digital world.
