Service

The Rajdhani Express is the 2nd fastest train on the Bengaluru (Earlier known as Bangalore) - Delhi sector after Duronto. It is a daily service. It operates as train number 22691 from Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna(Bengaluru) to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station and as train number 22692 in the reverse direction - four days a week. On the other days, it operates as 22693 / 22694. It covers a distance of 2375 kilometres in Bangalore City Junction to Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station direction and it takes 33 hours 55 mins when operating as train number 22691 at an average speed of 72 km/h while its return journey as train number 22692 takes 33 hrs 55 mins to cover 2375 kilometers at an average speed of 72 km/h thus making it the second fastest train on the Bangalore - Delhi sector.

History

Originally introduced in 1992, this was a weekly train, then converted to bi-weekly, tri-weekly and then four times a week. In end of March 2010, service 12493/12494, which later became 22693/22694 was added to make it a daily service. This was the first Rajdhani where overnight service standard was changed - the distance being greater than what can be covered overnight at Indian Railway's speeds.

Traction

As the route followed by the train is partially electrified, it is hauled by a WDP 4 of the Krishnarajapuram shed from Bangalore till Secunderabad and then till H. Nizamuddin, it is hauled by a Lallaguda or a Ghaziabad or a Tughlakabad based WAP-7.

Coach composition

The Bangalore Rajdhani generally has a 1 First AC, 5 AC 2 tier, 1 pantry car, 2 luggage cum generator coach & 9 AC 3 tier coaches taking the total up to 18 coaches. This Rajdhani had an infamous coach composition in terms of livery such that it was also called 'King of Mismatch'. Sometimes it had coaches of 7 different liveries. This mismatch is seldom seen now after the train switched over to LHB coaches. 22693/22694 received LHB coaches effective 21 April/22 April 2012. 22691/22692 Bangalore Rajdhani also received LHB rakes effectively from 09/08/2012 thus making it to run entirely with LHB since 9 August 2012.
