Barangay Bancal is one of the fourteen (14) urban barangays comprising the municipality of Carmona in the province of Cavite, Philippines. It lies about 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) away from the town plaza of Carmona, situated in the westernmost part of the municipality. Located here is the Carmona Racing Circuit race track. According to the 2010 Census, it has a population of 10,913 people in a land area of 520 hectares (1,300 acres).

Barangay profile

Barangay Bancal is located on the western part of the municipality of Carmona. Approximately 42 kilometres (26 mi) south of Manila and 18 kilometres (11 mi) from Trece Martires City, Cavite’s provincial capital. It is bounded to the northeast by Barangay Mabuhay; by Barangay Lantic to the southeast; by Silang, Cavite to the southwest; and by General Mariano Alvarez (GMA) to the northwest.

With a total land area of 520 hectares (1,300 acres), Bancal occupies almost 17% of the total land area of the municipality of Carmona.

Topography

The topography of Barangay Bancal is the hilly and mountainous area with slope ranging from 15% to more than 40%. The area is situated at an elevation of 100 to 200 metres (330 to 660 ft).

Climate

Barangay Bancal has two pronounced seasons – the dry season, which usually begins in November and ends in April, and the rainy season, which starts in May and ends in October. Barangay Bancal is cool periods are from December to February while summer months are from April to May. March, April, May, June, and July are the warmest months with an average temperature of 28.8 °C (83.8 °F). January, February and December are cooler with an average temperature of 25.8 °C (78.4 °F).

History

The area was mostly forest when people started settling in Bancal and most of the trees growing in the forest is called "Bancal". It has a yellow color, an efficient wood for used in building houses and for use as firewood. Almost all residents here had houses made of Bancal. During the Japanese occupation in World War II, the people living here sustained their livelihood by cutting the woods for firewood, selling them in bakeries. Because of the wood's importance, the barrio was called Bancal.
