Balsam Beach (54°19′S 36°26′W) is a narrow boulder beach with jagged islands close offshore, lying 0.75 nautical miles (1.4 km) east of Dartmouth Point in Cumberland East Bay, South Georgia. The beach appears on earlier charts, but the name was given by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1951 following a sketch survey. The name is one of a group in the vicinity of Dartmouth Point derived from the chemical stains used in the preparation for histological examination of biological material collected there by FIDS.
