History
Baljunso was founded in 1991 by Kang Byung-yong.
In 2014, S.M. Entertainment acquired a share in Baljunso, and the label in affiliation with S.M. held the Baljunso World Wide Promotion event in Hongdae on March 8, featuring artists such as HLIN, Love and Peace, EZEN, and Play the Siren. Play the Siren's debut single was the first release under the Baljunso-S.M. partnership. In response to concerns over the partnership between the indie label and a major mainstream agency such as S.M., Kang Byung-yong stated that while the goal of Baljunso was to "revive the nonmainstream genre", they would establish "a firm cooperative relationship [with S.M. Entertainment] for national and global distribution, marketing, and additional businesses."
