Baleswari Odia

Baleswari Odia (ବାଲେଶ୍ୱରୀ ଓଡିଆ) or Northern Odia (ଉତ୍ତରୀ ଓଡିଆ) is a dialect of Odia which has linguistic variations spoken in Balasore, Bhadrak and Mayurbhanj districts of Odisha, though the dialect is popularly known as Baleswari there are little variations which vary from place to place. Baleswari Odia spoken in Mayurbhanj are more similar and have impact of aboriginal twang and northern Balasore regions have a typically different accent. Baleswari Odia in Balasore urban and the other parts of Balasore district are similar, whereas it varies towards Soro, Baleshwar and bordering places of Bhadrak district.

Baleswari Odia has a substitute "Kisa" (କିସ) for the mostly used word "Kana" (କଣ) (means what). Most of the syllables which are pronounced as "o" are pronounced as "u" in Baleswari Odia, e.g. Odisa (ଓଡ଼ିସା) is pronounced Udisa (ଉଡ଼ିସା).
