Personal life

B Jayachandran son of the late artist and decorator T R Bhaskaran Nair and Kamalamma P, hailed from Thiruvananthapuram, Capital city of Kerala. School studies at Karamana Govt. High School and degree in BSC Mathematics from Mar Ivanious College, Thiruvananthapuram, University of Kerala. Career

At the age of 25 in 1982 joined Malayala Manorama, the largest circulated daily in the regional languages of India, as a trainee Photographer, was appointed news Photographer in Thiruvananthapuram Bureau in 1984. Promoted as Senior Photographer in 1990, Chief Photographer in1994. Joined New Delhi Buerau as the Chief Photographer in 1997 and posted Picture Editor Thiruvananthapuram Unit in 2005 and promoted Senior Picture Editor in 2015

  • Directed the documentary "Kailash-Manasa sarovar Yatra" for Malayala Manorama and screened more than 10,000 venues all over Kerala in 2006.
  • Travancore, A Saga of Benevolence(2012) - The Film offers rare glimpses into the royal dynasty of Travancore, an erstwhile south Indian kingdom, and is a 1-hour 45 minute gripping historical journey through the life and times of the Kings of Travancore. The docu-film was adjudged as the Best Documentary of 2011 at the Kerala State Film Awards.
  • The highlights of the historical docu-cinema produced and directed by Kerala-based photojournalist B Jayachandran, include cast members from the royal family, who lend a touch of originality to the film in addition to lead roles essayed by UAE-based corporate honchos, Dr B R Shetty, MD and CEO of NMC Group of Companies and Y Sudhir Kumar Shetty, COO, Global Operations, UAE Exchange.

  • "Drisya Shringam", Kasi to Kailash - Produced and directed the Documentary "Drisya Shringam", Kasi to Kailash The Himalayas for Malayala Manorama and the first screening was done in September 2015.
  • Special Projects

  • Followed the legendary Communist leader E M Shankaran Namboothiripad for 16 years, photographing his life, activities and evolution of the Communist movement. The entire project was published by Malayala Manorama as a coffee table book titled "Portrait of a Long March", and was released by Indian President K R Narayanan on 15 November 1999. Created EMS gallery with huge 119 canvas pictures in EMS Academy, Vilappilsala, Thiruvananthapuram.
  • "Words and Images", "An Odyssey Into the Landscape and Minds cape of Indian Writing" is an exploration through the medium of photography, the landscape of Indian writers. The Kendra Sahitya Academy organized an exhibition of the photographs generated as of the project at Delhi in April 2002. The Vice-President of India Krishen Kant inaugurated the exhibition in New Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
  • Created sree Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma Chithralayam, which reveals the last two centuries with 220 photo paintings, in Travancore Museum complex, Fort, Thiruvananthapuram.
  • Organized the production of "Visual History of Travancore" book, published by Malayala Manorama in 2012.
