Aurore (slave ship)

The Aurore (along with the Duc du Maine) was a cargo slave ship that brought the first African slaves to Louisiana on June 6, 1719, from Senegambia.

Information

The Aurore ship captain would force the slaves to lie down on the ship in a packed tight spoon-like position in order to occupy as little space as possible. This had to be done so that the captain would gain maximum profits. Leg shackles were also used on board the Aurore to keep the slaves together and enslaved.
