Aurata C.Sergius or Orata lived a short time prior to the Marsic War. He was distinguished for his love of wealth, luxury and refinement.

He invented the pensiles balneae, these being baths with the hypocausta under them.

He was the first to make artificial oyster beds at Baiae, from which he obtained a large revenue. Furthermore, he was the first to assert the superiority of the shellfish from the Lucrine lake.

Cicero described him as:

ditissimus, amoenissimus, deliciosissimus

His name is mentioned in respect to legal proceedings in which Cicero participated.
