Atul Chaturvedi (born 14 October 1961) is an Indian politician, social worker and industrialist based in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh. He is a member of the All India Congress Committee and contested the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from the Firozabad constituency as the Indian National Congress candidate.

Early life and education

Born in the well known Chaturvedi family of Firozabad Atul Chaturvedi was educated at the renowned Colvin Taluqdars' College, Lucknow. Later, he completed his M.A. in History, from Allahabad University in 1983, where he was the Social Secretary of the G.N. Jha Hostel.

Career

He joined his family business of glass manufacturing in Firozabad in the late 1980s and is known to be the pioneer of the glass handicraft export industry, through Shree Raghav Exports. He is widely credited for the proliferation of the glass handicrafts export from India to abroad. In the pursuit of expanding this industry, he has travelled to a large number of countries such as the United States of America, United Kingdom, Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, United Arab Emirates and many other countries.

His active involvement in politics began in early 2000s when he became the member of the All India Congress Committee and the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee.

He is a third generation member of the Indian National Congress. His father Sh. Ashoke Chandra Chaturvedi was the chairman (Mayor) of the Firozabad Municipal corporation and was a well known member of the Indian National Congress. His great-grandfather (late) Pt. Sushil Chandra Chaturvedi was a close associate of freedom fighters such as Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, (the first Prime Minister of India) and Mahatma Gandhi and had also been a representative at the Congress Lucknow Pact of 1916.

in 2014 Atul Chaturvedi contested the Lok Sabha elections from the constituency of Firozabad. His campaign was based on the 5-point agenda christened as "Fi-Roz-A-Ba-D" with:

  • Fi standing for 'Firozabad ka Samagr Vikas" (Firozabad's holistic development) and had schemes related to building a parallel income source for the district by promoting tourism and reviving as well as renovating tourist spots in Firozabad
  • Roz standing for 'Rozgar' (Income) and had schemes focusing around generating additional employment on the glass manufacturing industry of Firozabad; as well as generating more jobs through the development of the potato farming agriculture and industry in the district
  • A standing for 'Adhaarbhut Suvidhaein' (basic amenities) with schemes around provision of basic as well as advanced level healthcare and sanitation
  • Ba standing for 'Bal Vikas' (development of Children and the youth) and had schemes relating to provision of basic and advanced education as well as centres for competitive sports and recreational activities aimed towards the development of the youth
  • D standing for 'Dakshta' (skill building) with schemes relating to the training and development of the labour employed in the Firozabad glass manufacturing industry aimed towards boosting their earning capacity
