Atta Mohammad Hami (Sindhi: ڊاڪٽر عطا محمد حامي) was born on 1 January 1919 in his ancestral village Sohu Kanasira, Khairpur District. He was trend setter in poetry, writer, critic and scholar of his times. He died on 3 June 1982 in cancer disease.

Education
He received his Primary education at his village Sohu Kanasira, Matriculation from Naz High School Khairpur District, Intermediate from Sindh Muslim Science College Karachi. Later on he awarded Doctor of Philosophy degree from University of Sindh on thesis: "Khairpur Je Meeran Jo Adab, Siyasat ain Saqafat Mein Hiso" (Sindhi: خيرپور جي ميرن جو ادب، سياست ۽ ثقافت ۾ حصو) in 1978.
Professional career
His professional career started with service at Pakistan Works Department followed by teaching at Naz High School Khairpur and then transferred to Training College for Men Khairpur District where he passed B.A, P.T and M.A examinations during his service.
Political career
In 1953 he resigned from education department and took part in politics. He won the election of Khairpur Riyasat (State). In 1955, when One Unit came into being he lost his position and then joined Mumtaz Degree College Khairpur.
Literary career
He was poetry lover and had ample knowledge about the phrases of Sachal Sarmast in his poetry, where Sachal Sarmast's poetry was well elaborated by Dr. Hami. "Hami" was his pen name. He loved the poetry of Hazrat Sachal Sarmast, therefore, his much of the work is on Sachal's Poetry. He wrote ghazals and poems. His work is in Sindhi, Urdu and Siraiki language. In the last part of his life he was also member of Sindhi Adabi Board Jamshoro. Some of his books are: Samar Hayat (essays), Darzan Ja Darwesh, Mansoor Sani Sachal Sarmast, Sindh Ji Classical Shairi, Neenh Ja Naara, Wikhriyal Moti (essays) etc. As an award and recognition of his services, Commissioner of Sukkur district has given him opportunity for performing Hajj. He was Sufi kind of nature and had spread the message of love, peace and harmony. He had translated the mystic book Kashf ul Mahjoob of Ali Hujwiri in Sindhi Language.
Recognition
Government of Sindh had recognized his services in literature and history of Sindh, and laid foundation of "Hami Memorials in his village.
Death
Following deadly disease cancer, he died at Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre at Karachi on 3 June 1982.
