Biography

She began studying piano at the age of five and, soon after, began improvising and composing music. She is a self-taught jazz pianist. As a college student studying law in Keio University, Tokyo, she was an active member of the jazz big band, Keio Light Music Society. After graduation she appeared in jazz clubs in Tokyo, gigging in Tomas Band, some quartets and eventually formed her own piano trio. From 1994 to 2001, she lived in New York, where she learned from Steve Kuhn. Her music was influenced by this association. After she moved back to Tokyo, she performed live gigs in jazz clubs in Tokyo and Yokohama. In those years she arranged jazz music for the duo group ROSCO, and composed music for radio drama and CG animation. In December 2008, she had a duo recording with Dutch bassist, Frans van der Hoeven, and the CD "Amstel Moments" will be released in April 2009 from BJL/BounDee Inc. She currently resides in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and often visits Japan and has live concerts in Tokyo.
