History

ALPFA was founded in 1972, a group of Hispanic CPAs came together to tackle the lack of opportunities and visibility for Latinos in their industry by establishing the first national Hispanic professional organization, AAHCPA (American Association of Hispanic Certified Public Accountants). In 2001, they expanded the reach of their mission to be more inclusive of the professionals that were joining and changed the name to ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting). ALPFA reached over 10,000 members by August 2009. In November 2009, ALPFA merged with the National Hispanic Business Association (NHBA) and created an organization of over 14,000.

In 2011 ALPFA partnered with the Sam M. Walton College of Business to launch the ALPFA Institute in Northwest Arkansas. Through its Centers for Global Leadership, Women’s Leadership, and Diversity and Inclusion, the ALPFA Institute is a source of leadership for Latino leaders through advisory services, research and insights, and leadership development solutions.

In 2012, ALPFA reached a milestone of reaching 40 years as an organization and reached over 20,000 members. The Women of ALPFA reached its 10th year, and had the first ever 10-city tour promoting leadership for Latinas.
