The Association for Information and Image Management or AIIM (pronounced aim) is a non-profit membership organization. AIIM provides education, market research, certification, and standards for information professionals.

Contents

AIIM was founded in 1943 as the National Microfilm Association. It became "AIIM" in 1982. The organization advocates that information at work should be simple, secure, and available anywhere, anytime, and on any device.

The AIIM Conference

The AIIM Conference was officially launched in 2012. The annual event brings together over 600 attendees, consisting mostly of information management end-users, from over 25 countries to see presentations and take part in discussions on the best practices, current trends, and top issues facing the information management industry.

Speakers have included Brian Solis, Guy Kawasaki, Seth Godin, and David Pogue.

Executive Leadership Council Summit

The AIIM Executive Leadership Council has two delegations, the Americas and European. Each delegation meets twice a year for a think tank summit where industry leaders discuss, define, and direct the Future of Information Management.

These summits focus on determining the role of the content and information management industry in a new era of business which addresses Social, Mobile and Cloud computing.

The AIIM Executive Leadership Council has two goals:

  • Articulate the impact that these new technologies will have on the workplace
  • Define specific use cases for how the technologies can transform organizations and ways of work.
  • Findings from the summits are published as AIIM Trendscape reports which forecast the changes the information management industry will incur over the next 24 months and set priorities to take advantage of these changes.

    Enterprise Content Management Association

ISO 32000-1:2008 Document management—Portable document format—Part 1: PDF 1.7, in its Forward, refers to AIIM as "the Enterprise Content Management Association (AIIM)". AIIM defines the term Enterprise Content Management, and as late as April 2008, the year that ISO 32000-1:2008 was published, identified itself on its website as AIIM - The Enterprise Content Management Association.
