Early life and education
Ashutosh Pande is originally from Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra. He completed his schooling at Maneckji Cooper School, Mumbai,studied Physics (Hons) at St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, and went on to do his masters in Ancient Indian Culture at Mumbai University. Before the success of Bajaao, Ashutosh Pande wanted to become a writer and musician. He has played for bands like Xenon, Groove Lab, Khiladi, and Bombay Punk United.
Career
In 2001 Ashutosh Pande joined Zeus Learning, where he served for a few months. In 2003, he joined Wrox Press as a Technical Editor, and later worked for Packt Publishing as Senior Technology Manager where he gained exposure to various open source technologies. In 2005, after studying the musical instruments market on ebay, he founded Bajaao.com.
Ashutosh launched Bajaao.com from a 250 sq.ft. office in Mumbai with 300,000 rupees ($6,000) cash borrowed from family and personal loans from Citibank and HSBC. The office included N.O.C. The Jam Studio, India's first 24-hour rehearsal studio for bands. In 2006 during the early days of Bajaao, Ashutosh used to procure and deliver orders in Mumbai on his bike and frequently showed up at the doorsteps of some customers, personally delivering goods in order to gain insights from early online buyers.
In 2010 Ashutosh founded B69; a cross-genre underground venue for live music in Mumbai which hosted over 500 Indian and international bands over a span of three years. In 2015, Ashutosh founded and promoted open air heavy metal festival BIG69.
Ashutosh currently serves as Chairman & CTO for Bajaao and is also the founder and editor of Tiger Bulletin; a non-profit online magazine for tiger conservation in India.
