The Sun Is New Each Day received massive critical acclaim. The Big Takeover went so far as to call it, "A creation almost unlike anything else being made today." Heathen Harvest also sang the bands praises, claiming, "While I’m not sure it would be quite fair to lump Armonite in under the same canon as Premiata Forneria Marconi and their ilk, there’s a similar sense of adventurousness in their sound that you seldom hear in modern prog anymore."

Multiple critics noted the sense of humor and video game inspired sounds found in Armonite's work, with Paste (magazine) stating, ""'G' As In Gears" brings a playful element into the mixture, while songs such as 'Connect Four' sounds like a nostalgic video game with an undeniable dash of elegance in the mix"

Praise was not universal though, with Anti Music writing, "When it's a little too nerdy-complicated, though, that annoying band Kansas comes into mental view." and going on to say, "How much you dig this album largely depends upon how you feel about progressive rock and its musical relatives."
