Arkorful is a surname, alternatively written as Arkoful, Akoful or simply Arko; of Ghanaian, Akan and of Fante termination. It literally, means: “fitting its length”, and is believed to be indigenous to the town of Apam in the Central Region of Ghana. It is also common in Mumford and extends significantly to other towns like Ekumfi Atwa, Ekumfi Narkwa, Saltpond, Cape-coast and Winneba. It can also be found in various parts of the country outside the Central Region, including Sekondi-Takoradi, Tema and Kumasi. Otherwise, some countries outside Ghana and Africa also have a significant representation, with the United States, Canada and United Kingdom leading respectively in the number of registered individuals bearing the surname. Different clans of Arkorfuls’ are identified by their middle names, with some of the names evolving into compound names. One of such notable middle names is "Basa", which actually gives a clue to the origin of the surname.
