The Arkansas Southern Railroad (reporting mark ARS) is a short-line railroad which started service in October 2005.

ARS operates two disconnected lines consisting of 61 total miles, which are leased from the Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS):

  • The Northern Branch (formerly the KCS Waldron Branch) operates from Waldron, Arkansas to Heavener, Oklahoma, where it interchanges with KCS.
  • The Southern Branch (formerly the KCS Nashville Branch) operates from Ashdown, Arkansas (where it interchanges with KCS) to Nashville, Arkansas (where it interchanges with the Union Pacific Railroad).
  • ARS is owned by Watco Companies, a short-line railroad holding company.
