Ard scoil na nd ise part 1


The Ard Scoil na nDéise is an all-girl's secondary school in Dungarvan, County Waterford, Republic of Ireland. The school was established in 1990 as an amalgamation of Coláiste Muire, run by the Sisters of Mercy, and St. Joseph's Secondary School, run by the Presentation Sisters. Ard Scoil has over 400 pupils and 33 teachers.

Academics

The Core Curriculum includes Gaeilge, English, Mathematics, Science, German or French, History, Geography, and Civic, Social & Political Education. The school offers a broad curriculum and a range of extracurricular activities. The school provides the Junior Certificate, an optional Transition Year (TY) programme, the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) and the established Leaving Certificate.

Student Organizations

The school has an active student council. The Cáirde team is a student-mentoring initiative, which assists with the smooth transition of incoming students. The group is made up of Fifth and Sixth Year students who volunteer to help First Year students settle in as they start secondary school.

Transition Year

The secondary school offers a celebrated Transition Year that is taken up by '90%' of students, which is notably high, when compared to other schools. Transition year is packed with a variety of activities such as : bag packing for charity organisations, fundraising events, work experience, public speaking, manual handing, kickboxing, first aid, business enterprise, ECDL and many more.

Extracurricular

The school is well known for its success at debating, and operates an Amnesty International club.
