Prof. Archana Sharma (1932–2008) was a renowned cytogeneticist and cytotoxicologist. Her widely recognized initial contributions include the study of chromosome structure by a new technique. Her research and findings on chromosomal study on flowering plants have led to a new set of perceptions on their classification. She was the founding editor of Nucleus, an international journal of cytology and allied topics. Her book, Chromosome Techniques: Theory and Practice, was acclaimed. and cited. She served as President of the Indian Science Congress(1986–87). She was married to Arun Kumar Sharma, considered by many as the Father of Indian Cytology.
