Arag is a town in Sangli district in the Indian state of Maharashtra near the east coast of India.

Demographics
Arag has a population of approximately 15,000. A building of Gram Sachiwalaya was recently constructed in the town.
Business and economy
Farming is the main occupation in Arag; 75% of the inhabitants are involved in farming. Arag is famous for its progressive farming and farmers, as well as its cultivated farms which produce sugar cane, paan mala, jwari, turmeric, and other crops. The entire crop of sugar cane is sold to sugar factories such as Mohanrao Shinde Sahkari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd. Mohan Nagar, Arag, Vasantdada sahkari sakhar karkhana, Madhavnagar, Sangli etc. Arag is Sangli's leading grape and sugar cane producing town.
Arag is also famous for "Paan"; you can see acres of Panmalas (Pan Growing Fields) in and around Arag, and some visitors describe it as an open greenhouse. The pan is sent across India, with the majority going to Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Mumbai. Throughout India these are called Poona Pan.
Arag is considered to be the business center of the eastern part of Miraj, located just 6 km from Karnataka Border.

The town has temples built to Ganesh, Vitthal, Yallamma Devi, Mahadev (one modern and one ancient), Maruti, and a number of other deities. The town of Arag is also known for many people visiting the town on January 26 every year during the yatra (annual pilgrimage) of goddess Yallamma Devi.
It is said that people of Arag tried to uplift or shift the old Mahadev Pind (Shiv Ling) to a new location, but they could not because the Shiv Ling was unmovable. So you can visit two Mahadev mandirs in Arag.
Arag has a large Jain community, both Digambar and Shwetambar. It has an ancient Digambar Jain mandir built more than 1000 years ago. People say this mandir was built by Daitais in pre-historic times. Now, due to the negligence of the Archeological Department, the local community has started to restructure it. Many devout Jains visit and have darshan of the "Parshwanath" there. People say that if you do 108 pradakshinas all your wishes come true and are fulfilled.
