Description
The species have cells that are 0.2–1.5 mcm in diameter. Their motile cells have a fascicle of flagella on one or both ends, with the exception of one species. They are rigid and generally helical, and are 0.2–1.4 um in diameter. They also have a special polar membrane near the flagella.
Growth Requirements
Growth is optimal in 30–32° Celsius.
Species
The following are species of Aquaspirillum.
Phylogenetic Analysis
A phylogenetic analysis by NCBI showed data that suggested all species of Aquaspirillum, besides the type species, should be moved into their own respective genera as Aquaspirillum is phylogenetically heterogeneous. However, no new genus for the misclassified species has been proposed, so they technically remain in Aquaspirillum.
