He gained renown as a result of the success of his operas, although other were well-received works. He was direcction of company first time in Santander. After his death, his extensive output was a generally forgotten. His career spanned the majority of the musical areas of the period of the Restoration (1875–1885) Operas Director, reputed orchestral conductor, composer of óperas, zarzuelas, symphonic and chamber music. Contents

In Zaragoza was confirmed composer of company of zarzuela, premiering the zarzuela The feudal Castle . In Madrid he was a master songwriter in the company of Circus Theater for many years, and premiere A Fifth and a Substitute , Harry the Devil , Pablo and Virginia , The Girl Of snow ", in collaboration with Emilio Arrieta and José Inzenga," A throne and a disappointment ". In Valencia I have worked in opera, in Teatro Principal, 1882-83. At the same time, I approached the art zarzuela with unequal success. His output, while less than that of his contemporaries Chapi, Gerónimo Giménez and Manuel Fernández Caballero, is of great quality, given the variety of genres which I have tackled. Where I have adopted more modern procedures, within the limitations of the genre. His greatest fame came from opera, especially. On the other hand, I have written symphonic music with a singular insistence, at a time in which in Spain, orchestral ensembles barely existed. As a result of this were his symphonies, revealing a strong assimilation of Verdi and Beethoven's compositional techniques. His most successful works are those with a genuine Spanish character. During his last years I have composed several symphonic poems with a clear, nostalgic character, In the chamber-music genre he has left us several works, including quartets, as well as a tercet and quintet, composed of markedly classical standpoints, influenced by the world French of composers. He had gone to Italy for study and composed Oratio in Rome as one of the works written clearly of Italian origin.

He worked in the Theatre San Juan of Oporto, Portugal in the 1870s. There he wrote his four operas with premieres. He was a director of Theatre Real of San Juan since 1872. He wrote songs of Nineteenth-Century Spain, A Mi Nazarena with José zorrilla and El Beso del Poeta.
