Anthony Casalena (born April 24, 1982 in Baltimore, MD) is an entrepreneur, software developer, and designer living in New York City. He is the founder and CEO of the website publishing platform Squarespace, which now employs more than 500 individuals across New York, Portland, and Dublin, Ireland. He maintains active roles in the engineering, design, and product teams within Squarespace.

Background

Casalena graduated from the University of Maryland in 2005, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Previously, he attended Hereford High School in rural Maryland.
Founding and efforts at Squarespace

In April 2003, Casalena started writing the initial version of Squarespace from his dorm room in the University of Maryland. Casalena launched Squarespace in January 2004. The initial funding for Squarespace came in the form of $30,000 in seed funding from his father.

Soon after launching, Casalena won the 2004 University of Maryland Business Plan Competition, along with its $15,000 prize which served as additional capital for the company.

In January 2013, Anthony Casalena was named one of America's Most Promising CEOs Under 35 by Forbes.
