Annette Erös and her husband have been running together the project Kinderhilfe Afghanistan since 1998, a German NGO dedicated to help the children of eastern Afghanistan. The organization builds and runs local and high schools, orphanages, medical centers, computer education centers and professional schools. She, her husband and the five children spend large parts of the year in Afghanistan. She founded and lead the European School of Peshawar. At this exotic German school, as described by the German newspaper Die Welt in 1988, children from four continents were taught by female teachers from five countries. Destitute refugee children from Afghanistan were taught together with children from the well-off families of employees of international aid organizations from Europe, the USA and Asia. Ten years later, the school developed into one of the best educational institutions for Afghan refugee girls in Pakistan.
