Biography

His primary areas of research are Canadian foreign and defense policy, nuclear proliferation and the impact of advanced technology on the use of force. His most recent book is Avoiding Armageddon: Canadian Military Strategy and Nuclear Weapons, 1950-1963. He has also published in a wide array of journals, including International Journal, Comparative Strategy and Naval War College Review. Currently Richter is in the process of carrying out a comprehensive review of all recent literature on the Canada-US defence relationship since the mid-1990s. The goal is to create a database on bilateral political/military disagreements and disputes over the period from 1995 to 2005, which will lead to a future publication in the field.
