Andrea Claudio Galluzzo (born December 7, 1969 in Florence) is an Italian entrepreneur, writer, historian and archaeologist.

Biography

He was born in Florence and earned a degree in Law at the University of Siena and in Ancient History and Classical Archaeology at New York University. He is an entrepreneur, manager, and author of biographies and historical books. He is manager at La Florens, an ancient Italian luxury goods company belonging to his family, with headquarters in Florence and productive branches in India and China, specializing in leather ready-to-wear for women and men. In 1996 was admitted to the Italian Order of Journalists. In 2009 he was nominated director of Fiorentina's Museum. In 2010 he was elected president of Fiorentini nel Mondo, an international association representing thousands of Florentine citizens resident abroad. In 2012 he was elected President of the Foundation for Sports History Museums. In May 2013 he was elected president of the textile and clothing sector at Confindustria Firenze, the Italian Employers' Federation and in 2015 was nominated Board Member of Polimoda, the most important Italian fashion school, based in Florence and founded in 1986 as a joint project with the Fashion Institute of Technology of State University of New York. In 2015 was elected President of the Societa Italiana di Storia dello Sport and nominated Board Member of Museo del Calcio, the museum of the Italian Football Federation. On 25th March 2015 he was nominated Captain of the Parte Guelfa reconstituted as Christian order and archconfraternity to serve the Catholic Church and the Catholic Archdiocese of Florence. On 27th July 2015 founded and was nominated Rector of Civitas Dei, an academic institution dedicated to Jerusalem. Andrea Claudio Galluzzo is a Dominican Tertiary, i.e. a lay member of the Dominican Order.

Academics

In 2013 was appointed Visiting Professor of Ancient Olympics Archaeology at the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World (ISAW), the center of New York University (NYU) for advanced scholarly research and graduate education that cultivates comparative and connective investigations of the ancient world. In 2014 was nominated Visiting Professor of Fashion and Luxury Goods Management at the European School of Economics, a private business school based in London with branches in New York, Milan, Rome, Florence and Madrid. In July 2015 was nominated Rector of Civitas Dei, an academic institution dedicated to Jerusalem. In October 2015 was elected Honorary Professor at the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno of Florence.

Culture

In 1996 he began an epistolary friendship with Italy's most famous journalist, Indro Montanelli, that ended with Montanelli's death in 2001. In 2005 he founded and contributed to ItalyDay Culture Network, and to the magazines Antiquitas and Spiritus Mundi among others. He published Leviathan World, a literary comic work, in 2006. In 2010 he co-authored with Franco Zeffirelli the sport history book Derby Storico Fiorentino. In 2012 he wrote the history book Amerigo's America, which was dedicated to the Florentine explorer Amerigo Vespucci. In 2015 published Firenze Capitale Ideale, a book created to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of Florence as the Capital of Italy and founded, together with the historian Franco Cardini and other scientists, Civitas Dei, an academic institution of public significance, dedicated to the enhancement of historical, archaeological, religious and cultural heritage of Jerusalem.

Awards

In 1999 Galluzzo received the CONI National Literary Award for Il Fiorentino, a biography of Marquis Luigi Ridolfi da Verrazzano, a descendant of Giovanni da Verrazzano and Lorenzo il Magnifico, nobleman of Florence. In 2010 the Italian National Olympic Committee awarded him Sports Manager of the Year for the cultural development of the Centenarian Sports Associations of Italy. In 2015 Accademia delle Arti del Disegno of Florence awarded him the title of Accademico d'Onore, i.e. honorary member, placing him among those considered notable in culture and the arts. The Accademia was founded in Florence in 1563 by Cosimo I de' Medici and included members as Michelangelo Buonarroti, Francesco da Sangallo, Agnolo Bronzino, Benvenuto Cellini, Giorgio Vasari, Bartolomeo Ammannati, Artemisia Gentileschi, Giambologna were members. Its declared purposes are the promotion and diffusion of the arts, and the protection and conservation of cultural heritage worldwide.
