Anders Ibsen is an American politician and a City Council Member for the City of Tacoma. He represents the 1st Council District, which comprises Tacoma's West End, and the western half of the North End neighborhood. First elected at 25, Anders Ibsen is the second-youngest City Councilman ever elected in Tacoma's history.

Biography

Anders Ibsen was born at Tacoma General Hospital in 1986. He attended St. Patrick's School until 7th grade, at which point he attended 8th grade at Truman Middle School. After attending freshman year at Stadium High School, Anders became a member of the first class of the Tacoma School of the Arts, graduating with honors in 2004. Anders graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Evergreen State College in 2008 with a degree in Political Science and Sociology.

Anders Ibsen has worked for the local non-profit Safe Streets as a neighborhood block watch organizer, served as a legislative staffer in the Washington State House of Representatives during the 2011 regular session, and currently works as a residential real estate appraiser.

He and his wife Beverly have been married since 2008, and live in the North End neighborhood of Tacoma.

Elected Experience

Prior to his election to the city council, Anders Ibsen served a term as an Elected Supervisor on the Pierce County Conservation District. Elected in 2008 while still a senior in college, Anders Ibsen focused on fostering more community gardens in the greater Tacoma region, as well as starting up the Tacoma Envirothon after school program.

Anders Ibsen is a member of the Neighborhood and Housing Committee, the Infrastructure Planning and Sustainability Committee, as well as several local boards such as Elements of Education, the Joint Municipal Action Committee and the Zoo/Trek Authority.

Community service

Anders Ibsen served a term on the North End Neighborhood Council, where he worked to promote neighborhood outreach and to secure grants for neighborhood projects. He also chairs the Pierce County Citizen Advisory Board for the Pierce County Community Connections Department, and serves as a board member for the Elements of Education - the fundraising board for the Tacoma School of the Arts, Tacoma Science and Math Institute, and Stewart Middle School.

Previous boards Anders has served on include the Tacoma Opera, the Green Partnership Fund, and the Tacoma Food Cooperative.
