Overview

Anandalaya : derived from 'Anand' - 'alaya', a home of happiness, founded by Dr Verghese Kurien in 1988, is a school in the city of Anand, 40 km (25 mi) away from Vadodara and 80 km (50 mi) from Ahmedabad. The school is an un-aided, child-centred, co-educational school with classes from junior KG to class XII (Science & Commerce), affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. The school is housed on the NDDB campus with the built-up area of over eighty thousand square feet (7,400 m2).

The school is managed by Anandalaya Education Society, registered as a society and as a public trust. Shri T. Nanda Kumar is the chairman of the Anandalaya Education Society.

Teaching methodology

The school follows a system of continuous evaluation at the pre-school and the primary stages, wherein no examinations are conducted. The students are assessed on the basis of their regular performance in both scholastic and non-scholastic activities. From class VI onwards the students have terminal and final examinations apart from the Weekly Test and the Surprise Tests.

At the pre-primary level (junior and senior KG named Kush and Pallav) students are exposed to a variety of activities. In classes I to V all these items are done through integrated activities in subjects, like, English, Hindi, Maths, Science and Social Science. In classes VI to VIII children are initiated into the formal teaching - learning situations, maintaining a balance between the lecture method and activity- oriented methods. In classes IX to XII, children are provided learning experiences as per the guidelines of the CBSE. In order to take learning beyond the four walls of the class room, each class undertakes field trips/ picnics/ excursions, as per the requirements of the curriculum.
