Anand Vyas is an American sitar player musician cinematographer polymath and artist who was born in Queens, New York. He joined the lineage of musicians belonging to the Indore Gharana and subsequently learned the style of the Maihar Gharana. He was initiated and groomed by Ustad Sultan Khan who was a very famous sarangi player from Jaipur. He uses thicker non-traditional strings on his sitar, which gives his music a deep and unique tone.

Anand began taking lessons from Ustad Sultan Khan after Khansahib came to Atlanta and asked Anand to be his student. This is a very unusual of request in that the maestro had chosen his student. Anand has achieved international recognition in many fields and attended Julliard for music and the performing arts though he did not finish a degree there he was there 3 years. He has continued learning from Pandit Sukhraj Jhalla and Pt. Indrajit Bannerjee of India. He became a Gandha Bandhan Disciple in 1990, the traditional Guru-Shishya thread tying relationship. Since that time, Anand Vyas has accompanied many of the leading musicians of India including, Anup Jalota , Ikram Khan and even toured with his own group in Asia Anand Vyas has toured the United States, India, and other countries to perform. His work on stress and music can be found in the International Journal of Yoga a Scholarly publication.
