Ijshockey unis flyers amstel tijgers
IJshockeyvereniging Amstel Tijgers is a semi-pro ice hockey team in Amsterdam, Netherlands, playing in the Dutch Eerste Divisie (first division). It once consisted of an amateur and a pro-section, which were separate legal entities. The amateur team currently plays at the Jaap Eden baan. The amateur team plays in the Eerste divisie, while the professional team played in the Eredivisie, the Dutch professional hockey league. However, poor attendance, lack of sponsorship and poor performance on the ice (even forfeiting a game during the 2009-2010 season) led to the disbanding of the professional team in the summer of 2010.

Amstel tijgers
Earlier Names
The Amstel Tijgers has returned to its original name in the 2005/2006 season. Unusually for a Dutch Ice Hockey team the team isn't linked to a sponsor. In previous years the names of the Team were: Amsterdam Bulldogs, Boretti Tigers and Al Capone Flames.
The Amstel is the river that flows through Amsterdam. Tijgers is the Dutch word for Tigers.

The Amstel Tijgers had a firm rivalry with the Tilburg Trappers. Usually the games between these two were tight and some unfriendlies will be exchanged between players. Ever since the 2001-2002 season have the Amstel Tijgers been totally dominant over their rivals and been the end-station for any play-off or cup run of Tilburg. However, during the last 2006-2007 season the Trappers finally succeeded in eliminating their rivals from the play-offs. However, the team began to perform poorly in the 2008-2009 season and were no longer contenders for the championship. After a very poor season competitively and financially, the team dropped our of the Eredivisie in 2010.
