Story of amrapali jewels

Historical Background

The concept of Amrapali Jewelry was born from the fascination that Rajiv Arora and Rajesh Ajmera held for Ancient India, as it was the focus of their graduate program.

Geographical presence

Amrapali's first point of sale was established in 1978 in Chameli Bazaar, on M.I. Road in Jaipur, a traditional market known for silver jewellery.

From here Amrapali Jewels further expanded to its next key point of sale, The Oberoi Hotel in Mumbai in 1989. This was a critical point in the history of the Amrapali Jewels, as The Oberoi presented Amrapali Jewels with a platform that was almost global in context, as it was right in the middle of India's financial hub – Mumbai. The Oberoi not only housed the crème dela crème of Indian society, but also international delegates and foreign visitors that really took a liking to this handcrafted technique of jewelry making, and its unique tribal jewelry that was presented in a contemporary manner. This gave Amrapali Jewels a global identity that propelled the company into the limelight of international recognition.

In 1991 the company moved its headquarters to one of Jaipur's most significant landmarks, the hub of the city's commercial district, Panch Bhatti. At Panch Bhatti a flagship store was established, along with a designated space for the company to run its operations, that included a retail and wholesale business that catered to the domestic markets, as well as a thriving exports business.

By 2002 Amrapali Jewels had 38 established points of sale across India in the form of directly operated stores and franchisees, a presence across 6 foreign countries from the UK, US, Spain, Sri Lanka, China & Nigeria. In 2013, Amrapali launched its e-commerce website and ships to over 220 countries worldwide.

Today Amrapali Jewels is one of India's largest global jewelry houses, with two state of the art factories located in Jaipur's SEZ zone, and operates its business from its 12,000 sq.ft. headquarters located in Ashok Marg, to resemble the traditional Haveli, the best possible way to display jewelry in its traditional context. The company employs over 2000 craftsmen, and supports initiatives across the country to protect this community of craftsmen, and revive their dyeing craft.

Awards and Noteworthy Collaborations

From 2010 onwards, Amrapali Jewels has undefeatedly won the Highest Export Award of the Year in Rajasthan State, The Leaders of Tomorrow Award in 2012, the Heritage Jewelry Award of the year in 2012, at the Gem fields & RioTinto Retail Jeweler India Awards, and was nominated at the Andrea Palladio Awards held in Venice, for the Best International Jewelry Brand Collection in 2012.

Amrapali has won an award for Best Unique Heritage Jewellery at the 2nd edition of GJTCI Excellence Awards 2014. Amrapali was also awarded by NDTV for Top 100 SME in 2014 and 5th consecutive award for Highest Export in Costume & Fashion Jewellery category (2009–2014) by Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council of India in 2014.

Amrapali Jewels is also the only jewelry house in India to retail out of the Harrods fine jewelry room, as well as present its collections at the New York and Milan fashion weeks.

The Jewelry house has also been commissioned on numerous occasions by governing bodies to be a part of critical projects. In 2000 Bill Clinton, the American president, was presented with silver tribal artifacts from Amrapali Jewels, during his visit to India on behalf of the Government of Rajasthan state. Amrapali also has had the opportunity to collaborate with Harrods Exclusive Tea to create an exquisite crown to display at Harrods as part of the window display to celebrate the Queen's diamond Jubilee.

Amrapali jewels has designed exclusive pieces for legendary Hollywood blockbuster like Troy, The far pavilions, Valley of Flowers, to the popular Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and Bollywood movies like Cocktail and Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, Jism and Paap.

Currently the Jewelry House is running a collaboration with one of India's most talented designers, and ex creative director of Paco Rabane, Manish Arora.

Amrapali is also in the process of building a museum in Jaipur, which will showcase the private jewellery and artifact collection of the founders, Mr. Rajiv Arora and Mr. Rajesh Ajmera.
