American Legends

History

First released in November 2014, American Legends is a five issue comic book mini series written by Bill Schwartz and Zachary Schwartz, with art by Studio Hive.

Plot

Legendary pioneers Davy Crockett, Mike Fink, and Sally Ann Thunder team up on a quest to save the Lewis & Clark expedition and thwart a conspiracy hatched by Napoleon to destroy the promising future of a young American nation.

American Legends #1

In 1803, Sally Thunder leaves the pub she works at to visit the local cemetery. She finds a witch, Marie LaVeau performing a blood ritual and tries to stop her, but Sally's horse gets spooked and runs off a bridge. Jean Lafitte saves her from falling. Davy Crockett and Mike Fink travel to New Orleans and meet Sally in her pub only to both confess romantic interest in her. Sally goes back to the cemetery and overhears an assassination plot against Lewis and Clark's expedition to start a war between the United States and Spain. When she's discovered, a skeleton rises from the grave and chases her. Davy and Mike see Sally running and shoot the skeleton. Sally prepares to go after Lewis in Clark because her brother Eric is their translator, prompting Davy and Mike to join her.

American Legends #2

Davy, Mike, and Sally ride through the forest and discuss how Eric met Lewis and Clark. Further ahead, Lafitte and his gang lead Marie LaVeau through the forest and Marie pokes a voodoo doll of Sally. Sally tends to her wound when Sacagawea approaches them and warns of Mother Nature's wrath. She gives them a crystal that will protect them. Lafitte meets Hatfield and demands a new wheel for their wagon. When he refuses, Marie uses a magic spider to make him and McCoy fight each other. They leave before Davy, Sally, and Mike discover the friends mid-fight and defuse the situation. Overnight, the trees come alive and hold Mike captive until he apologizes to them. A strange man follows the group, kidnaps Sally, and takes off on a boat. Mike swims after and Davy rides an alligator until they catch up and save her. Realizing the man was part of Lafitte's group, they strip him and kill his messenger bird.

American Legends #3

A saber-toothed tiger attacks the group but Sally uses Sacagawea's crystal and puts it to sleep. They come up to Lafitte's camp and Sally sneaks up while Davy and Mike watch. Marie starts to use voodoo to kill all of Lewis and Clark's party except one when she discovers Sally eavesdropping outside. Davy and Mike help her escape and steal one of Lafitte's boats. Sally destroys Marie's voodoo doll of her, but not before it summons a river beast that capsizes their boat. Davy, Sally, and Mike cling to debris and fall over a giant waterfall.

American Legends #4

The group survives the fall and Johnny Appleseed revives Davy. Johnny helps them find new horses and leads them out of the forest. Davy, Sally, and Mike come upon a canyon that Davy suspects as an ambush. The Sioux descend upon them and capture the group. The men take them back to the tribe where an also-captured Sacagawea waits. The giant, hawk-likeThunderbird arrives and flies straight for a tied up Sally while Lafitte and his gang watch from afar.

American Legends #5

Davy and Mike convince the Sioux to let them free in exchange for stopping the Thunderbird. Davy shoots it in the eye before saving Sally from falling down the canyonside. The Sioux lead them into Yellowstone Forest where they find Paul Bunyan. Paul cuts down some trees and builds them a boat at lightning speed. Davy, Sally, and Mike ride down the river and confront Lafitte's men. Their raft crashes and Davy shoots one of the men. Marie uses voodoo to resurrect him and he nearly kills Mike before Sally force-feeds Marie magical seeds from Johnny Appleseed. Davy stops the Lafitte brothers and they save Sally's brother Eric.
