The Ambala Air Force Station is an air base east of the urban Ambala area. It is used for military and government flights. It is also used to fly in politicians and other key people.
History
This air base was first built in 1948 following the independence of India. It is also the home to the No. 5 and No. 14 Squadrons of Jaguar aircraft, No. 23 Squadron of MiG-21bis.
In 1948, a Flying Instruction School (FIS) was formed here. In 1954, FIS Ambala was moved to Tambaram near Chennai in Tamil Nadu, at Tambaram Air Force Station.
