Alyssa Carson (born 2001) also known by call sign Blueberry, is an American trainee astronaut and public speaker. Carson aims to be on the first human mission to Mars around 2033.

Early life

Carson was born in Hammond, Louisiana. She decided she wanted to travel to Mars at age 3 inspired by Nickelodeon animated TV show The Backyardigans. Her father Bert Carson supported her aspiration and enrolled her in United States Space Camp in 2008.

Carson returned to Space Camp several times in the following years and also attended Space Camp in Laval, Quebec and in Izmir, Turkey. She became the first person to visit all three NASA Space Camps.

In 2013, Carson was the first person to complete the NASA Passport Program by going to all 14 NASA Visitor Centers in the US.

Carson attends Baton Rouge International High School and studies her school subjects in Chinese, English, French and Spanish. She is an ambassador for the Mars One private spaceflight project.
In 2014, Carson appeared on Steve Harvey and honored as their youngest Female Groundbreaker.

Carson has featured in the media around the world including BBC, CBS, Independent, NBC Nightly News, and Australian Daily Telegraph.
In October 2016, Carson graduated from Advanced Possum Academy. She was the youngest to be accepted and graduate from this program.
