History
Alternative Nation began airing in 1992. It was a somewhat more mainstream version of sister-show 120 Minutes. While the latter aired videos by more diverse artists, such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, Bronski Beat, New Order, The Replacements, The Verve, Weezer, Robyn Hitchcock, and Butthole Surfers, Alternative Nation focused primarily on the alternative hits of the day, including songs by Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Oasis.
Alternative Nation currently still airs in some regions of Europe as a weekly show on MTV Adria, MTV Czech and MTV Romania. The intro still used for the show on MTV Adria and MTV Czech was originally conceived for MTV Europe in 2003.
